BEIRUT 30 June 2023 — The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon repatriated 25 distressed Filipinos on 27 June 2023. In coordination with relevant Lebanese authorities, the Philippine Embassy facilitated the release of their clearance from legal and immigration liabilities, being undocumented and having no financial remedies. This repatriation batch also includes a detainee who was provided with legal assistance, such as access to legal representation and jail visits among others.
Repatriates expressed their gratitude to the Embassy for facilitating their return to the Philippines and providing them with legal and welfare assistance considering the harsh impacts of the crisis in Lebanon on undocumented migrant workers. Four of the OFWs were affected by the strikes in Lebanon’s public sector leading to protracted delays in the processing of their legal cases. They were eventually cleared from allegations and immigration liabilities for onward repatriation.
The said mass repatriation activity is the last batch to be facilitated by the Philippine Embassy’s Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Section as it turns over OFW-related functions to the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Lebanon starting 01 July 2023.
The Embassy’s ATN section shall continue to extend assistance to other distressed Filipinos in Lebanon in view of prevailing conditions in the country. END
