Philippine Economic Managers Conduct First-Ever Economic Briefing in Canada

TORONTO 17 July 2023 – The Philippines’ top economic officials conducted the first-ever Philippine Economic Briefing (PEB) in Canada at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto on 13 July 2023. Speakers during the PEB included Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Eli M. Remolona, Department of Budget and Management Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman and National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan.
The economic officials discussed the Philippine government’s spending priorities, fiscal, and infrastructure programs, as well as recent reforms that further open the Philippine economy to 100 percent foreign ownership of public services and renewable energy. A group of panelists representing the private sector reacted to the economic officials’ presentations and shared their experiences on doing business in the Philippines.
Around 80 senior business leaders and investors attended the briefing. Following the briefing, the economic officials will participate in round-table discussions with banks and other financial institutions on investment opportunities in the Philippines. END
