Philippines' Gilas Women U16 Promoted to Division A of the FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship

AMMAN 20 July 2023 — The Philippine Embassy in Jordan, led by Philippine Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos, and the Filipino Community, once again turned up in full force to support and cheer for the Gilas Women U16, during their game against Iran for the FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship Division B Finals on 16 July 2023 at the Prince Hamzah Hall in Amman.

In a spectacular display of skill and determination, Gilas Pilipinas defeated Iran, securing a resounding victory with a final score of 83-60. This historic win promoted the team to Division A, paving the way for their participation in the tournament's next edition in 2025.

The Philippine National Team showcased an awe-inspiring performance, remaining undefeated as they fought their way to the finals. They began their journey with a remarkable 79-40 win against Hong Kong, followed by an extraordinary 144-22 domination over Maldives. In a highly-anticipated match against the host country, Jordan, Gilas Women U16 emerged victorious with an impressive 106-58 final score. The semi- finals saw them triumph over Malaysia, securing another remarkable win of 79-44, eventually leading them to a decisive showdown with Iran in the Division B finals.

The unwavering support of the Philippine Embassy team and the vibrant Filipino community was evident in all of these games. Their presence in the stands, cheers, and encouragement to the players after each win showcased the strong camaraderie and unyielding national pride that binds every Filipino.
