PH Consulate General in Osaka Conducts TAYO Fashion Showcase, Celebrating the Artistry and Culture of the Philippines and Japan

OSAKA 25 July 2023 –– The Philippine Consulate General in Osaka conducted an event entitled “TAYO Fashion Showcase”, where it proudly presented an exhibit of creativity and collaboration between the Philippines and Japan. The event was held on 14 June 2023 at the Atrium Lounge, 38F in Conrad Osaka, brought together designers from the Philippines and Japan, fashion enthusiasts, and esteemed guests to celebrate the fusion of Philippine and Japanese Fashion.
A selection of artworks from the exhibit were showcased on 12 and 13 June 2023 during the Philippine Independence Day Celebration at the 40F Atmos Dining of the hotel.
The word “tayo” holds multiple meanings in Filipino and Japanese. In Filipino, it represents unity and strength, while in Japanese, it signifies diversity and multiculturalism.
Philippine Consul General to Osaka Voltaire D. Mauricio, in his opening remarks, thanked the attendees for their presence and support to the cultural projects of the Consulate General. He also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “The TAYO Fashion Showcase is a testament to the power of fashion as a universal language that transcend borders. It is a celebration of our shared heritage, creativity and the enduring friendship between the Philippines and Japan.”
The event featured prominent Filipino designers such as Feanne, Ken Samudio, Joyce Makitalo, Kate Torralba, Pamela Madlangbayan and Japanese designers Haruka Hirai, and kkjk. Some of the said designers have previously participated in notable Philippine fashion initiatives in Japan, including the Philippine Fashion Showcase Osaka 2022 (Feannea and Ken Samudion), PHXTOKYO 2021 (Feanne and Joyce Makitalo), and Mercedes Benz Tokyo Fashion Week 2015 (Ken Samudio).
The event was a resounding success captivating 100+ guests consisted of members of the Consular Corps, business leaders, prime movers as well as stakeholders in the fashion industry.
Hankyu Mall, one of Japan’s premiere department store, representatives Messrs. Yo Hayashi and Hiroshi Takeda, have offered the Filipino designers an opportunity to do a popup selling event at Hankyu Umeda Souq in 2024.
TAYO Fashion Showcase plans to continue its mission of promoting cultural exchange and collaboration through future events and initiatives. END
