MILAN 28 July 2023 - Philippine Consulate General in Milan culminated the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Italy with the concert Amici Per Sempre held in Milan on 8 July 2023. The concert featured Koro Hiraya, an all-Filipino choir headed by baritone Joseleo Logdat, soprano Marilou Borres, and pianist Malou Rauto alongside the Italian ensemble: pianist Sandra Conte, violinist Massimo Corbi, flutist Carlo Mangiacotti, clarinetist Paola Catale, and saxophonist Olivier Puget.
The Philippines and Italy established diplomatic relations in 1947 when President Elpidio Quirino and Foreign Minister Count Carlo Sforza signed the Treaty of Friendship and General Relations in Rome. Seventy-five years later, this friendship is made stronger by the almost 200,000 Filipinos in Italy.
The Amici Per Sempre concert pays tribute to Italy and the Italian people not only for the friendship and cooperation but also for the kind hospitality to thousands of Filipinos who now consider Italy their second home. Italy hosts the largest number of Filipinos in the European Union, with the majority of them in Milan and neighboring regions.
The Amici Per Sempre concert also celebrates the members of the Filipino Community in Italy for their economic contributions to the Philippines, while also fostering stronger bonds of friendship between the Filipino and Italian communities. END
