Philippine Cricket Team Calls on PH Embassy in Port Moresby

PORT MORESBY 31 July 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Port Moresby, led by Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, Ariz Severino V. Convalecer welcomed the Philippine Cricket Team to the Chancery on 28 July 2023. The Philippine Cricket Team arrived at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on 20 July 2023. The team comprises a touring squad of twenty people – 15 players and five team officials, led by the team’s manager, Mr. Faisal Khan of Cricket Philippines.
The team competed in the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 East Asia Pacific Regional Finals which was held on 22-29 July 2023 with four other teams, namely; Japan, Vanuatu and host Papua New Guinea. The winner will gain automatic entry to the ICC T20 World Cup to be hosted by the West Indies in June 2024. So far, the Philippines has registered one win against Vanuatu.
During their visit, Chargé d’Affaires Convalecer gifted the team with a Kundu, a native hourglass-shaped drum used to accompany formal occasions, religious ceremonies and celebrations. END
