FRANKFURT 01 August 2023 – As part of the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt’s Philippine Studies Program with the Ruhr University in Bochum (RUB), the “Philippine Perspectives”  Summer School, which featured various modules on a wide array of academic topics related to the Philippines, was conducted in the University from 17 to 28 July 2023.

The two-week program, which featured insightful discussions on Philippine history, literature, language, migration, sociology, culture, arts, and film, served as a platform for cultural immersion and academic exchange. It gathered about 38 participants, including professors, students, and researchers, who displayed a keen interest in the diverse aspects of the Philippines. In addition to the resident German/international professors of RUB, the event brought together three Filipino scholars in Europe, namely Professors Stephanie Marie Coo (history, Lisbon), Leni Bugayong (linguistics, Zurich) and Leonard Cruz (dance arts, Lower Saxony) who contributed their expertise to the University in Bochum.

Some distinguished members of the Filipino-German community also contributed to the program as panelists for the forum on migration, as instructor for the Filipino martial arts/eskrima exhibition and as chef for the Philippine Food Week at RUB’s canteen. END
