23 June 2014 - The Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community in Bahrain commemorated the 116th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence with a falg-raising ceremony, and a short program at the Embassy grounds on June 12.
The celebration revolved around the national theme “Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino, Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago.” Embassy personnel and Filipino community leaders attended the simple rites.
The Philippine flag was hoisted up by selected Filipino community leaders and representatives of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) of the Philippines Inc. – Bahrain Chapter, Katilingban ng mga Illonggo sa Baharin (KIB), and Alpha Kappha Rho (AKHRO) Bahrain.
The flag-raising ceremony was followed by a program, which consisted of the singing of the national anthem, oath of allegiance to the Filipino flag, invocation by representatives of different faiths, and speeches of Embassy officials and prominent Filipino professionals Dr. Ansari Macapundag and Dr. Rhodius Noguera.
Selected Filipino community leaders read the messages of President Benigno S. Aquino, Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario and Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz. END
