PH Ambassador, Minister of Labor Discuss Deployment of Filipino Skilled Workers to Jordan
AMMAN 08 August 2023 – In a pivotal meeting between Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo C. Santos and the Ministry of Labor (MOL) Secretary General Farouq Al-Hadidi on 07 August 2023, Jordan expressed its eagerness to bolster its labor cooperation with the Philippines through the introduction of the Specialized Work Permit for Filipino skilled workers.
The Secretary General acknowledged the contribution of Filipino workers in the economy of Jordan and informed the Ambassador of the increasing demand from various sectors for Filipino skilled/ specialized workers. He informed the Ambassador of the Ministry’s enthusiasm to open proper channels with the Embassy and discuss ways and means to facilitate the entry to Jordan of these skilled workers.
The Ambassador, in return, expressed his gladness and welcomed this positive development. He conveyed to the Secretary General his gratitude to Jordan for opening its doors to the 43,000 Filipino nationals in the Kingdom. He also expressed his appreciation for the guarantees instituted by Jordan for the promotion of the rights and protection of the welfare of overseas Filipino workers. He assured the Secretary General that the Embassy will work closely with the Ministry on this new endeavor and will continue to partner with the Ministry in other areas of mutual concern.
The meeting set in motion closer coordination between the Ministry and the Embassy’s Migrant Workers Office to facilitate the deployment to Jordan of Filipino skilled workers from the Philippines.
As reported, 95% of Filipino workers in Jordan are employed in the domestic/ household service sector. This labor demographics is expected to change with the introduction of the Specialized Work Permit which will allow the entry and employment of Filipino skilled workers in the Kingdom.
