23 June 2014- The Philippine Government, through the IT-Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST), has a pavilion in Singapore’s CommunicAsia Exhibition, an annual high-profile exhibition of and convention on leading-edge ICT technologies and solutions, which this year is being held on June 17 to 20 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.
The Philippine Government was among the 2,000 exhibitors from 50 countries showcasing a very wide range of leading-edge ICT products and services, including 4G/LTE, AR and Innovations, content security management, FTTx, mobile apps, mobile broadband technologies, telecom energy and power systems, among others.
Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales supported the IBPAP-led Philippine delegation, which comprised 10 companies, namely: ADEC Group, Bayan Telecommunications, Celo Business Solutions, Exist, Globe Business, Magellan Solutions Outsourcing, Pointwest, Results Companies and Vanguard Screening Solutions. He opened the Philippine exhibit and welcomed Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim of Singapore, who visited the pavilion.
The IBPAP-led delegation marketed the Philippines’ competencies in cloud computing, mobile, wireless solutions, broadband, IT-enabling services, data centers, International Gateway Facility services, contact center services, back-office, data processing solutions, employment screening services, among others.
Philippine delegation leader Jose Mari Mercado, President and CEO of IBPAP, said that Philippine participation in ICT exhibitions results in a very significant number of tendered business leads and signed contracts. CommunicAsia is one of the world’s top IT exhibitions and a major opportunity to market the Philippines to corporations, multinational and national, that come to scout for innovative technology and service solutions.
In 2013, the Philippines’ offshoring and outsourcing (O&O) sector earned US $10 billion and employed about 500,000 people. It projected that by 2016, with current trends, the sector will grow its revenues to $20 billion and employment to 900,000. However, revenue and employment growth can be further increased to $25 billion and 1.3 million persons if the Philippines can strengthen its Private-Public Partnership program and improve the quantity and quality of the nation’s talent supply.
According to the Tholons’ end-2013 Top 100 Outsourcing Destinations, eight of the world’s ranked top outsourcing cities are in the Philippines, i.e.: Manila (2nd), Cebu (8th), Davao (69th), Sta. Rosa, Laguna (82nd), Bacolod City (93rd), Iloilo City (95th) and Baguio City (99th). END
