GENEVA 11 August 2023 – The Philippines provided voluntary funding to support the facilitation of international cooperation and assistance under the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC).

Ms. Kristine Leilani R. Salle, Chargé d’affaires, a.i. of the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, personally conveyed the notice of transfer of funds to Mr. Daniel Feakes, Chief of the BWC Implementation Support Unit on 09 August 2023.

The said funds represents last year’s tranche of the Philippines’ yearly donation to maintain and optimize the BWC’s Cooperation and Assistance Database, which was established by States Parties during the Review Conference in 2011.

The database facilitates the requests and offers of exchanges of assistance and cooperation in accordance with Article 10 of the BWC. The Philippines had been heavily involved in developing the conceptualization of this database.

This contribution was made on top of the Philippines’ regular contribution that supports the implementation of the Convention. END
