23 June 2014- The Philippine Embassy in Yangon received the Myanmar Government’s donation of non food items for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in a handover ceremony held on June 13 at the Central Warehouse of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Mayangone, Yangon.
The donated items consisting of 245 blankets, 97 towels and 98 shirts are scheduled to be shipped to the Philippines on June 19.
In December last year, Myanmar President U Thein Sein visited typhoon-hit Bantayan Island in Cebu. The Myanmar Government donated USD$100,000 and distributed relief packages to victims of Typhoon Yolanda during President U Thein Sein’s State Visit to the Philippines. This is in addition to the 7 tons of relief goods donated by the Myanmar Defence Services in November last year. END
