PH Ambassador Presents Credentials as New Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations Office at Geneva

Ambassador Carlos D. Sorreta presenting his Letters of Credence as the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Philippines to Director General Tatiana Valovaya, Director General of the UN Office at Geneva and the representative of the UN Secretary General in Switzerland.

GENEVA 05 September 2023 – Ambassador Carlos D. Sorreta presented his credentials appointing him as the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Philippines to the UN Office at Geneva (UNOG) to H.E. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the UNOG and the representative of the UN Secretary-General in Switzerland on 31 August 2023.

During the call, Ambassador Sorreta conveyed to the Director General the good wishes of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Foreign Secretary Enrique A. Manalo. He assured Director General Valovaya of the Philippines’ continued meaningful and active participation in the work of the United Nations Office at Geneva, particularly in the fields of disarmament, human rights, climate change, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian assistance, and migration and development.

Geneva is considered the second most important location of the UN next to New York and is home to a huge number of intergovernmental organizations and host to around two-thirds of the UN activities, making it a centre of international cooperation and multilateral negotiations

Prior to Ambassador Sorreta’s appointment as Permanent Representative, he had been serving as Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and International Economic Relations of the Department of Foreign Affairs. END
