FRANKFURT 11 September 2023 - Setting the stage for the Philippines’ highly anticipated role as the Guest of Honor Country at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2025, the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt hosted a book launching event for the Filipino graphic novella entitled “Barcelona”, penned by critically-acclaimed author, Criselda Yabes.

Scheduled for release this month, the novela digs into the narrative of Barcelona, a female leader guiding a group of orphans through the backdrop of a vanishing and dystopian Manila, set in the year 2050. The book presented an opportunity to showcase the Philippines’ unique perspectives on social issues,  including climate change, military conflicts, feminism, history and geography, among others.

During the event, Ms. Yabes underscored key themes and issues explored within the novella. It led to dynamic exchange and an engaging open forum where literature enthusiasts/attendees had the opportunity to reflect on the country’s vibrant literary heritage as well as the creativity of Filipino authors like Criselda Yabes.
