24 June 2014 – On June 21, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales presided over the Filipino community meeting at the chancery of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore at 20 Nassim Road.

This month’s meeting had an added significance as it was also an occasion for the Ambassador to lead the observance of this year’s Seafarer’s Day in Singapore.

The meeting is a regular event organized by the Embassy as a platform where Filipino community leaders meet and exchange views with Embassy officials on matters concerning Filipino nationals in Singapore as well as on other issues that are of significance to the Philippines.

The meeting was preceded by a “Kapihan”, where participants were given an opportunity to network with other members of the Filipino community. During the actual meeting, the heads of the various sections and attached agencies of the Embassy gave important updates and relevant announcements. Filipino community leaders also gave a pitch on forthcoming events.

To observe Seafarer’s Day 2014 with the Filipino community in Singapore, the meeting did a mass recitation of the poem, “The Sailor Boy”, by Alfred Lord Tennyson, and offered a collective prayer for seafarers. A video clip, “Buhay Marino”, was also shown.

The meeting concluded with the usual Filipino “salu-salo” courtesy of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office/Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (POLO/OWWA) Singapore. The next Filipino community meeting is scheduled in August 2014. END
