PH Embassy in Libya celebrates MANAMo 2023 with Demo-Workshop on Drawing Pawikan
TRIPOLI 21 September 2023 – In celebration of the Maritime Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo) 2023 this September, the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, conducted “Demo & Workshop on Observational/Freehand Drawing” last 15 September 2023 at its Chancery Building in East Janzour, Tripoli.
The activity was attended by 30 in-person and online participants, including students from First Philippine International School and Philippine Cooperative Academy in Libya in Tripoli and Philippine Centennial Academy International in Benghazi.
Ms. Aissa Domingo, Artist Illustrator II of the National Museum of the Philippines, who joined virtually from Manila, gave a short talk on green sea turtles (Chelonia Mydas), commonly known as pawikan, and showed how to draw (through blind contour and observational/freehand techniques) and paint (using acrylic) the pawikan. During the workshop, the participants created their own pawikan artworks using the drawing and painting techniques they learned from Ms. Domingo.
Apart from celebrating MANAMo 2023, the demo-workshop is part of the Embassy’s effort to reintroduce the Filipino community in Libya to Philippine society and culture. END
