MUSCAT 22 September 2023 – Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Jacqueline Joan S. Arquiza received the Philippine Navy-led Combined Task Force (CTF) 151 headed by Captain Mateo Carido at the Philippine Embassy on 12 September 2023. The CTF 151 is a multinational counter-piracy task force under the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) headquartered in Bahrain with U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and the U.S. 5th Fleet. Its staff include representatives from the Philippines, Australia, Brazil, Italy, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Spain, Singapore, Thailand, and Türkiye.
The Philippine Navy led CTF 151 visited Oman from 12 to 14 September 2023 to conduct Key Leadership Engagements in different places within the CMF area of operations.
CDA Arquiza thanked the Philippine Navy officers for their visit and congratulated them for assuming the command of CTF 151 in Manama, Bahrain, which is the first for the Philippines.
As the Philippine Navy’s visit coincided with the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month 2023, the Philippine Embassy, in cooperation with the Philippine School in Oman (PSO), organized a Career Talk with Grades 10 to 12 students. The team spoke of the Philippine Navy’s expanded roles beyond its initial mandate to protect the country's shores. They presented a video showcasing the current acquisitions of the newly developed and modernized paraphernalia in the Philippine Navy as of 2023. These foregoing revampment efforts of the government would allow an entrance for a preferable and stronger Philippine Navy that is ready and able to provide safeguard and territorial defense, including heightened operations and presence in the maritime area of the Philippines. In addition, the team also shared their own experiences, sacrifices, challenges, and sense of fulfillment in serving the country.
“Their visit was marked by an engaging career talk that left a lasting impression on our Grade 10 to 12 students.” - PSO Facebook page.
CDA Arquiza also joined the team for their courtesy call at and tour of the Maritime Security Center of Oman on 13 September 2023.
