TORONTO 03 October 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto launched a photo exhibit at its consular area in time for the celebration of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA MO) for September. The photo exhibit, entitled “Archipelagic State: Identity, Consciousness and Law” is intended to promote awareness among the general public on the arbitral award and the Philippine Archipelagic identity, including the historical, cultural, and legal dimensions.
This year's MANA MO theme, "Kapuluan, Kabuluhan, Kaunlaran" (Archipelago, Significance, and Development), underscores the interconnectedness between the country's geographical makeup, its historical importance, and its journey towards progress.
Clients of the Consulate General have expressed appreciation for the photo exhibit for giving them a better understanding of the maritime heritage of the Philippines. “This photo exhibit gives us a better appreciation of what is at stake for the Philippines, especially in the West Philippine Sea, and how the Filipinos here in Canada can help to safeguard our interest in the area,” remarked one of the clients.
The photo exhibit, which was based on the exhibits by the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York and the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, may still be viewed by the general public until the end of October 2023. END
