25 June 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Milan reached its 1,000th registrant today since it started overseas voters registration on May 6.

Eighteen year-old industrial engineering student, Iane Bernethe De Jesus just arrived in Italy this April.  She is the middle child of three siblings.  Her parents came to Italy in 2004 and 2006.

When asked why she wanted to vote, Iane replied, “Nabigla na lang po ako na pwede na pala ako bumoto.  Mas mabuti naman kaysa masayang ang boto.” (I was surprised when I learned that I could already vote.  It is better to exercise the right to vote rather than have it wasted).

Iane is currently looking for an Italian university to continue the degree she started in MAPUA.  She wants to be an industrial engineer since all branches of engineering are tackled under industrial engineering, she says.  Iane looks forward to working for an electronics company in the future.

The Consulate General continues to vigorously encourage the Filipino communities in Milan and Northern Italy in all available fora including Filipino community celebrations, Filipino masses and other gatherings. END
