25 June 2014 - In observance of the birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles attended a wreath-laying ceremony organized by the Knights of Rizal (KOR), Historic Filipino Town Chapter at the FACLA Hall at Historic Filipino Town on June 19.
Deputy Consul General Imelda Panolong represented Consul General Leo Herrera-Lim. In her remarks, she called on the KOR and other like-minded persons to heed the call of Dr. Rizal for the Filipino people to be worthy of freedom and liberty. She urged them to excel in their respective fields, to be proud of their country’s history and legacy, and to ensure that the lessons of the past are never forgotten. She reminded them that Dr. Rizal once said that there are no tyrants if there are no slaves.
The event was organized by the Knights of Rizal, Historic Filipino Town chapter and was participated by the FACLA Directors led by its President KOR Mr. Austin Baul and Knights of Rizal from various chapters of Southern California. After the wreath-laying ceremony a short program followed where there was also a Chapter Command Turnover from KCR Mr. Fender Santos to KCR Dr. Marc Caratao presided by KCR of the Western Region of the KOR California Mr Tony Berango, Dr. Veronico Agatep and Mr. Chito Mandap.
