FRANKFURT 09 October 2023 - As part of its efforts to promote the Philippine creative industries, the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt, in collaboration with Bipolaroid Film Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering local Filipino indie filmmakers, conducted a film-showing/discussion event featuring three Cinemalaya short films, “Home Credit,” "Beauty Queen" and "Heist School." Mr. Brian Borutta, one of Bipolaroid’s board of directors, made a presentation on the topic “Empowering Pinoy Indie Films and Creative Industries: The Role of Filipinos in Germany.” The event delved into the challenges and opportunities facing Pinoy indie films, including need for international recognition, the role of overseas Filipinos in promoting and supporting these films, and the potential economic benefits of a thriving creative industry. He particularly emphasized the significant role of the Filipino-German community in empowering and elevating Pinoy indie films on the global stage.
The short film "Beauty Queen," awarded as the Best Film of Cinemalaya 2022, is a compelling bio-pic of Kapampangan war hero, Kumander Remedios Gomez. Meanwhile, "Heist School," explored themes of friendship, resiliency, and street smarts. The third film “Home Credit,” is a comedy film about the burdens of taking on loans. END
