VIENNA 13 October 2023 – The Philippines chaired a side event of the Asian Network for Education in Nuclear Technology (ANENT) held at the sidelines of the 67th International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference (67th IAEA GC). With the theme, “Celebrating 20 Years of Learning and Sharing Nuclear Knowledge with ANENT,” the meeting was chaired by National Liaison Officer Ms. Ana Elena Conjares from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) and presented ANENT’s achievements, existing capabilities and services, and future plans of widening the network’s membership and educational outreach.
The IAEA maintains a number of international networks whose main goal is to strengthen international cooperation and dialogue on nuclear technology, facilitate cooperation between network participants, and help them share experience and expertise. One of these networks is ANENT. The first meeting of ANENT was held in 2004 and was attended by 11 IAEA Member States including the Philippines. Today, the Philippines is spearheading efforts towards sustainability in nuclear technology in the Asia-Pacific as Chair of the Asian Network for Education in Nuclear Technology (ANENT), a regional partnership supported by the IAEA for cooperation, capacity building, human resource development, and knowledge management.
