25 June 2014 - Philippine Consul General in Milan Marichu Mauro attended the closing ceremonies of the Youth Leadership Seminar today in Turin. The two-day seminar organized by the Council on Youth Leadership Development of Northern Italy brought together 45 Filipino-Italian youth from different parts of Northern Italy to develop their leadership skills.
Consul General Mauro advocated to the participants the responsible use of social media, which could be used to positively influence change. She also emphasized the importance of being aware of their Filipino roots and traditional values, the continuous use of the Philippine language and culture despite the geographical distance from the country.
Described as ‘servant leaders,’ the young participants will organize echo seminars in their own cities to spread the lessons they learned during the seminar entitled, “The Youth that Serves is the Youth that Leads.”
This is the first such project of the Council on Youth Leadership Development of Northern Italy comprised of Filipino community leaders from different areas of Northern Italy.
Turin is home to an active Filipino community. The Tau Gamma Phi/Sigma Italy National Council held a medical and dental mission at the Centro Filippino. This is the third medical and dental mission to provide services to the Filipino community for the year.
