26 June 2014 - In observance of the 153rd Anniversary of the birth of Dr. Jose Rizal, Philippine Ambassador to Spain Carlos C. Salinas, together with the Knights of Rizal Madrid Chapter (KRMC) Commander Federico Sanchez Aguilar, led the traditional wreath-laying ceremony on June 22 at the Rizal Monument in Avenida Islas Filipinas in Madrid.
Present during the event were officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Madrid and its attached agencies, KRMC officers and members, and members of the Filipino community.
The solemn wreath-laying ceremony included the singing of the national anthems of the Philippines and Spain, brief remarks by Ambassador Salinas and KRMC Commander Sanchez, and the reading of Rizal’s last poem, Mi Ultimo Adios.
In his speech, Ambassador Salinas underscored the importance of the occasion, saying that it should be a reminder that everyone can be a hero like Jose Rizal. END.
