Philippines Donates US$30,000 to the International Maritime Organization

LONDON 24 October 2023 - The Philippines donated US$30,000 to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for technical cooperation training and activities. Philippine Permanent Representative to the IMO Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. presented to Secretary-General Kitack Lim the donation made by the Philippines to the Organization on 20 October 2023 at the IMO Headquarters in London.
The donation was coursed through the Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (ITCP) of IMO Technical Cooperation Committee (TCC). It will be used to fund training relating to maritime security and safety, such as maritime casualty investigation or anti- piracy workshops and prevention and control of maritime pollution. Intended beneficiaries of the training will be personnel from relevant government agencies of the Philippines, as well as government personnel from other interested countries.
TCC oversees IMO´s capacity-building programme and the implementation of technical cooperation projects for which the Organization acts as the executing or cooperating agency, ensuring that IMO supports the United Nations sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Also present during the event was Mr. Xiaojie Zhang, Director of the Technical Cooperation Division of the IMO. END
