Philippines Intensifies Visibility at Frankfurt Book Fair as Prelude to its Guest of Honor Status in 2025
FRANKFURT 25 October 2023 – The Philippines had a more prominent showing in the prestigious Frankfurt Book Fair this year from 18 to 22 October at the Messe Frankfurt in the lead up to the Philippines’ Guest of Honor (GOH) showcase in 2025.
Philippine Ambassador to Germany Susan Natividad and Philippine Consul General to Frankfurt Marie Yvette L. Banzon Abalos joined the high-level Philippine delegation composed of officials from the National Book Development Board led by Chairman Dante Ang, Department of Education, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Office Senator Legarda and representatives from the Philippine publishing industry during the opening ceremony. During the duration of the Fair, the PH delegation also met with key stakeholders in the international publishing industry, including FBM President and CEO Juergen Boos to discuss a meticulous approach towards developing a detailed roadmap for the country’s GOH status in 2025.
“Books Philippines” presented an immersive experience that presented an array of books and published materials by Filipino authors and showcased several Filipino authors/publishers in international panel discussions. Located at the International Hall, the Philippines moves up to a larger platform that gives greater visibility to Filipino literary talents. By 2025, more Philippine titles are expected to be translated into German and the European languages. END
