PH Embassy in Phnom Penh brings Museo Pambata to the University of Cambodia

PHNOM PENH 24 October 2023 – Representatives from the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh and Sentro Rizal Phnom Penh visited on 24 October 2023 the Philippine Room of the University of Cambodia (UC) in cooperation with the University’s Vice President for International Affairs and Dean of the Tony Fernandes School of Business, Ms. Gina Lopez, Ph.D.
In her welcome remarks, Dr. Lopez expressed her appreciation for the Embassy’s visit and mentioned the continued cooperation of the Philippine Embassy in donating books, tourism, and cultural materials to the University’s Philippine Room. She likewise expressed hope that the Embassy conduct more activities for UC’s students in the future.
In response, Chargé d’Affaires Genina Marion T. Rafal expressed gratitude for Dr. Lopez’ and the University’s warm welcome. She underscored the important role of museums and galleries in helping shape future generations through the preservation of history and artworks. She highlighted that the partnership with Museo Pambata (Children’s Museum) in the Philippines also aims to shed light on the role of children and youth in nation-building.
During the visit, the Embassy celebrated the Museums and Galleries Month (MGM) 2023 with a total of 26 second- and third-level Cambodian students. Through video clips, the Philippines’ Museo Pambata(Children’s Museum) was introduced to the students, as well as the clay art activity.
The students divided into two groups had a fun session as they enthusiastically tried to recreate Ali Estrella’s clay frame. The winning group composed of six participants was awarded with photos, stickers, and description booklets of indigenous art, as the Philippines also celebrates the Indigenous Peoples Month 2023 this October.
An exchange of tokens concluded the visit. Dr. Lopez handed over the University’s information kit to CDA Rafal, while CDA Rafal presented to Dr. Lopez the book titled “Pananamit: An Illustrated Guide to Philippine Indigenous Attire” by JME Foronda, as well as Love the Philippines tourism posters.
