PH Ambassador Presents Credentials to El Salvador Vice President

EL SALVADOR 03 November 2023 – H.E. Lilybeth R. Deapera presented her credentials as Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Vice President Féliz Ulloa in a ceremony held at Casa Presidencial of El Salvador on 27 October 2023.
Ambassador Deapera was among the eight (8) Ambassadors who were newly accredited to El Salvador. She was accompanied by Political and Economic Assistant Mary Therese C. Jose. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Adriana Mira was likewise present.
In a brief téte-á-téte, Ambassador Deapera expressed appreciation for the opportunity to present her credentials. She reiterated the Philippine commitment to strengthen the more than seven decades of partnership with El Salvador. Both countries share long historical ties as they were under the Spanish rule through the Vice Royalty of New Spain.
Vice President Ulloa stated that El Salvador is open to explore cooperation with the Philippines, especially in its priority areas of agriculture and renewable energy. Other areas of cooperation may be identified once the inaugural political consultations will be convened.
During her visit, Ambassador Deapera also took the opportunity to meet with officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Tourism, and Agriculture and Livestock, as well as from the El Salvador´s Agency for International Cooperation (ESCO) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Ambassador Deapera hopes to open channels of communication with the goal of forging collaboration in tourism promotion, agricultural production, trade and investment and development cooperation.
She likewise held an in-person meet & greet attended by 7 members of the Filipino Community (FilCom). As of 2022, there are 23 Filipinos residing in El Salvador, who are mainly professionals. The Philippines maintains its Honorary Consulate in San Salvador to address the needs of the FilCom.
The Philippines and El Salvador formally established diplomatic relations on 04 July 1946. In 2022, total trade between the two countries amounted to USD 1.5 million, making El Salvador the 136th trading partner of the Philippines. END
