26 June 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon participated in the traditional Flores de Mayo event organized by the Couples for Christ (CFC) Lebanon chapter and the Afro-Asian Migrant Center at the Saint Joseph Church in Tabaris, Beirut last May 18. The two church-based organizations are under the spiritual guidance of Rev. Fr. Martin McDermott who is the parish priest for St. Joseph Church, one of three Catholic churches in Beirut and nearby areas where many Filipinos attend mass on Sundays.
The annual religious event is an occasion to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. The whole day activity comprised of a living rosary, a mass, including a flower offering to the statue of the Virgin Mary and a cultural presentation by the migrant groups. Each group, including the Embassy, was allotted a tent dedicated to a saint, and also prepared food to be shared for free to all the attendees. The Embassy displayed a photo of San Lorenzo Ruiz and shared pansit, biko and sago’t gulaman.
The Embassy also took the opportunity to campaign for Overseas Voting and to register the Filipinos present during the event. END
