Philippines Participates in the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing
BEIJING 06 November 2023 – Philippine Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Jaime A. FlorCruz attended the Opening Ceremony of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on 17 October 2023.
Under the theme of “High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity”, over 130 countries, including the Philippines, participated in this year’s Forum, which marked the 10th year anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the Forum’s Opening Ceremony and delivered a keynote speech entitled "Building an Open, Inclusive and Interconnected World For Common Development". In his speech, President Xi announced eight major steps that China will take to support the joint pursuit of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and stressed that China will work with all parties involved to deepen Belt and Road partnerships of cooperation, ushering in a new stage of high-quality development.
During the State Visit to China of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., in January 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Philippines and China on Cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative was signed on 04 January 2023. The MOU signifies the intention of both countries to cooperate in the areas of policy dialogue and communication, infrastructure development and connectivity, trade and investment, financial cooperation, and socio-cultural exchanges.
The Philippines has participated in all Belt and Road Forums, including the high-level events in 2017 and 2019. END
