Philippines Joins ASEAN Representations in Frankfurt to Promote the Region's Cultural Diversity

FRANKFURT 08 November 2023 - As part of its collaborative activities with ASEAN Diplomatic Missions in Frankfurt,  the Philippine Consulate general in Frankfurt  co-organized an event entitled, “A Moment of ASEAN: Multiculturalism in Southeast Asia” on 4 November at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. The event, which aims to showcase ASEAN’s diverse culture and strengthen ASEAN presence in Germany,  was attended by members of the German/international academe and ASEAN community in Frankfurt and nearby areas.

The event stimulated discussion among the German academe on the challenges of multiculturalism  in Southeast Asia and  how the region embraces and celebrates cultural/political diversity and harmonious coexistence of different cultures and beliefs. The key message of the event revolved around ASEAN’s diversity in terms of cultures, political systems and comparative advantages which must be seen as an instrument of promoting economic growth in the region and establishment of one common ASEAN/regional identity in response to such diversity. As an occasion to celebrate cultural diversity, the ASEAN Consulates also presented cultural performances and promoted ASEAN cuisine and tourism. For the Philippine part, the Consulate presented the country’s indigenous communities in a photo exhibition;  ‘Salip’ courtship dance performance by Filipino-American Professor Leonard Cruz and contributed adobo and ube biko for the reception.
