NAMCYA Winners Enthrall Audience at Young Artists Night Concert in Hong Kong

HONG KONG 09 November 2023 — Winners of the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) enthralled the audience at the Y Theatre Hong Kong during the “NAMCYA Winners Meet Hong Kong: Young Artists Night with the Hong Kong Metropolitan Pop Orchestra” Concert on 31 October 2023 presented by the HKMPO.
Among the Filipino young artists who performed during the concert were Ms. Regina Saban (Soprano), Mr. Damodar Castillo (Cello), Mr. Gabriel Allan Paguirigan (Pianist), Mr. Victor Ian Luigi Torres (Violin), Mr. Lance Tulagan (Viola), Mr. Benedict Magboo (Pianist), Mr. Jose Marie Eserjose (Violin), and Mr. Edelmark Bitao (Guitarist). They delighted the audience with a repertoire of 11 Filipino and classical music masterpieces including “Pezzo Capricciosom Op. 62”, “Romance No. 2 in F Major, Op. 50”, “Capriccio Hommage a Paganini’ for Solo Viola, Op. 55”, “Etude No. 8, Op. 10”, “Mein Herr Marquis from Dis Fledermaus”, “Bordel 1900 from Histoire du Tango”, “Recuerdos de la Alhambra”, and “Cavatina, Op. 7”. The winners also performed heartwarming rendition of Filipino songs, “Pahinungod”, “Mutya ng Pasig”, and “Kalesa”.
In his Opening Remarks, Vice Consul Jose Angelo D.G. Manuel shared that the event symbolizes the close cultural cooperation and well-defined musical link between the Philippines and Hong Kong. He also expressed his hope that a greater cultural and musical connection will be established and explored through the concert.
Earlier, Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong Raly L. Tejada welcomed the NAMCYA delegation in a courtesy call on 29 October 2023. CG Tejada congratulated all the winners for their musical achievements and commended their families and mentors for shaping the careers of the young artists.
Aside from the opportunity to collaborate with the HKMPO, the concert served as a way of celebrating NAMCYA’s 50th year anniversary of discovering and nurturing young Filipino musicians. The full-house event also featured local young musicians from Alliance Primary School and Kei Wan Primary School Orchestra. END
