RANCAGUA 15 November 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Chile explored with Chilean meat industry representatives the options to meet the Philippines’s growing demand for pork and poultry products.

During their visit to the Agrosuper headquarters and plant located at Camino La Estrella 401, Rancagua, Region de Bernardo O’Higgins, Chile, on 07 November 2023, they discussed concrete ways forward to help expand Chile’s meat access to the Philippines and provide quality products to Filipino consumers.

Agrosuper has more than 65 years of experience in producing and selling chicken, pork, turkey, and processed meat within and outside Chile. It currently exports to 64 countries around the world, including the Philippines.  Agrosuper expressed its intention to increase its pork and poultry exports to the Philippines, as part of the company’s efforts to diversify to other Asian export markets.

Officials of Agrosuper provided the Philippine Ambassador to Chile Celeste Vinzon-Balatbat with an overview of the company’s history and humble beginnings, high quality production value chain, and the company’s stringent phytosanitary and biosecurity protocols.  Agrosuper also shared its best practices in promoting animal welfare, its circular economy and sustainable development priorities, efforts to combat climate change through carbon footprint limitation, and community engagement and social programs.

Ambassador Balatbat welcomed Agrosuper’s “intention to increase its exports of high-quality meat products to the Philippines” and the idea of “tapping the Philippines as a potential gateway to other countries in Asia.” This also supports efforts by the Philippines and Chile to explore the possibility of a free trade agreement (FTA), which would allow Filipino and Chilean consumers to enjoy a greater variety and lower cost of high-quality products from each other’s market. She provided recommendations on how Agrosuper and the Philippine Embassy in Santiago could work closely with the Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry, and the Chilean Embassy in Manila to address market access issues.

Santiago PE visited Agrosuper upon the invitation of Mr. Guillermo Diaz del Rio – General Manager, Mr. Juan Carlos Dominguez – Executive President of Chile Carnes, Mr. Rafael Prieto – Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager, Mr. Vicente Ruiz-Tagle – Leader of Public Affairs, Mr. Ismael Eguia – Deputy Manager for International Commercial Intelligence, Ms. Maria Teresa Flores – Head of Internal Communications, and other Agrosuper officers and staff-members. Ambassador Balatbat was accompanied by First Secretary & Consul Dennis John C. Briones during the plant visit. END
