Madrid-Based Filipino Jiu-Jitsu Bronze Medalist at Abu Dhabi World Masters Brings Pride to the Philippines

MADRID 20 November 2023 – Filipino Jiu-Jitsu martial artist Didier Tabernero Abordo paid a courtesy visit to Philippine Ambassador to Spain Philippe J. Lhuillier at the Philippine Embassy in Madrid on 15 November 2023 after winning the bronze medal at the 2023 Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

Tabernero, a dual citizen of both the Philippines and Spain, proudly competes using his Filipino nationality and consistently displays the Philippine flag at all of his tournaments and wins. Ambassador Lhuillier was very pleased with Tabernero’s inspiring patriotism, saying "I recognize the Philippine pride that you display so passionately and I hope that there would be more athletes like you now and in the future."

On his part, Tabernero expressed his deep love for his mother's country, and his gratitude for the strength that he draws from his Filipino heritage. "I will continue to fight under the Philippine flag. It is both my pride and pleasure."

The courtesy visit also included Consul Monika Limpo, Mrs. Remedios Tabernero Abordo, his mother, and Mr. Antonio Tabernero Abordo, his uncle. END
