PH Embassy in Damascus Hands Over Philippines’ Financial Aid for Earthquake Victims in Syria

DAMASCUS 21 November 2023 — Last 15 November 2023, Damascus Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) John G. Reyes handed over to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Faisal Mekdad Philippines’ Financial Aid to the Syrian Arab Republic amounting to two hundred thousand US Dollars (US$200,000.00). The cash donation was intended for the devastation caused by an earthquake that hit North of Syria on 06 February 2023.

Prior to the handover, Minister Mekdad thanked Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Jr. and the Filipinos for their support to the Syrian people after the said earthquake. According to him, the emotional support which the Philippines manifested during those times was more important than money. 

As the two countries celebrate the 77th anniversary of establishment of formal diplomatic relations this year, the donation is a tangible manifestation of the Philippines’ filial consideration of and continuing concern for the Syrian Arab Republic. END
