Philippines Wins Bronze at Asian Science and Mathematics Olympiad for Primary and Secondary School 13 in Indonesia

MANADO 23 November 2023 – Three 11 year old Filipino science and math wizards Luke Andrei Medina Lorenzo, Andrei Jeremy Yu and Stella Clarisse Velasco Andrada garnered Bronze medals in the highly competitive Asian Science and Mathematics Olympiad For Primary and Secondary School (ASMOPSS) 13 Final Round, held from 15 to 19 November 2023, in Bitung City, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The amazing three-member Philippine Team, the smallest delegation, made their mark by taking the Bronze Medals in their respective disciplines. Stella Clarisse Andrada from CH.I.L.D.S. Academy (Roxas City, Capiz, Luke Andrei M. Lorenzo from Pateros Catholic School and Andrei Jeremy Yu from La Salle Green Hills counted on their mentor, Mr. Randy Barbo, Faculty from St. Stephen’s High School (Manila), their respective families who travelled with them and the Philippine Consulate General, for the needed support to compete with their equally exceptional math and science counterparts in Asia.
More than 100 children, aged nine to 13, from the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Tajikistan, Viet Nam and Indonesia participated in person, while Singapore and Turkmenistan participated virtually.
ASMOPSS 13 is organized by the Surya Institute, an Indonesian non-government organization, and promotes math and science education at an early age through training, workshop and competition. The annual gathering has been successful in infusing confidence, interest and mastery of science and math among the participants and now has an extensive list of participants from all over Asia.
