PH Consul General Welcomes Chinese and Filipino Audiences to the First Ever Sine Filipino sa Konsulado in Guangzhou
Sine Filipino saKonsulado, with the screening of three (3) Filipino movies at Post’s Event Hall
Guangzhou, 30 November 2023 – The Consulate General, in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) under the its Philippine Embassies Assistance Program (PEAP), successfully concluded its program, Sine Filipino sa Konsulado, with the screening of three Filipino movies at its Event Hall on 11, 18, 24, and 25 November 2023.
The screenings of “Signal Rock” by Director Chito S. Roño on 11 November 2023, “Pauwi Na” by Director Paulo Villaluna on 18 November 2023, and “Ano Ang Kulay ng Nakalimutang Pangarap” by Director Jose Javier Reyes on 24 and 25 November 2023 were attended by more than 80 people from Guangxi Film Bureau, Broadway Cinematheque Shenzhen (BCSZ), Chinese and Filipino students from Jinan University, Filipino students from Guangxi University of the Arts and Hunan Agricultural University, and members of the Filipino community in Guangdong.
Guests, both Filipinos and Chinese, exclaimed with excellent comments after the screenings, while some of them were moved to tears. They all expressed excitement knowing that Filipino film screenings are possible at the Consulate General and also expressed hope to see more Filipino films in the future. On the other hand, guests from Guangxi Film Bureau and Broadway Cinematheque Shenzhen (BCSZ) expressed interest in linking possible collaboration in the promotion of Filipino films in Chinese cinemas.
In his remarks, Consul General Marshall Louis Alferez reminded that audiences that the “magic of cinema is in the connection with others in shared feelings of joy and sadness, tribulation and triumph” and it is also through the film screenings that Chinese audiences “understand better the heart, mind and soul of the Filipino”.
