Ambassador Paul Raymund P. Cortes Presents Credentials to the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa
LISBON 01 DECEMBER 2023 – Philippine Ambassador Paul Raymund P. Cortes presented his credentials to the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the Belem National Palace, Lisbon, Portugal, on 28 November 2023.
The event commenced with a ceremonial procession to the historic Jerónimos Monastery, a display of 60 horses embodying the grandeur and tradition of such occasions. Ambassador Cortes received an honorable salute from the Mounted Squadron of the National Guard, symbolizing the profound respect and longstanding ties between the Philippines and Portugal.
The journey continued to the Belem National Palace where the Ambassador received a military salute from the Infantry Honor Guard, followed by the live renditions of the national anthem of both countries by the Portuguese Navy Band.
In the grand Ambassadors Room, Ambassador Cortes formally presented his Letter of Credence to President de Sousa solidifying his role as the primary diplomatic representative of the Philippines in Portugal. This pivotal moment marks a renewed commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and collaborative endeavors of both countries.
During the tête-à-tête that followed, Ambassador Cortes and President de Sousa discussed key initiatives and potential collaborations, particularly in areas of economic development, cultural exchange, and global cooperation, that could further enhance the dynamic partnership between the two nations. President de Sousa also hoped that our bilateral economic partnership would strengthen in the next few years. He also hoped that more official visits between the two countries could be arranged as a strategy to deepen our ties.
Ambassador Cortes was accompanied by his spouse, Dr. Yasmin Cortes and Third Secretary and Vice-Consul Maria Flordeliza A. Tuiza.
