MANILA 04 DECEMBER 2023 – Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization in Geneva Manuel A.J. Teehankee served as a resource person during the back-to-back technical assistance seminar-workshops hosted by the Philippines on 14-16 November 2023 for Regional Workshop on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) and Decarbonization for Asian Members and 15-17 November 2023 for Seminar-Workshop on Trade Remedies for Philippine Investigating Authorities.

The regional workshop on TBT is part of the technical assistance program of the World Trade Organization aiming to address opportunities and challenges for Asian Members with respect to the TBT Agreement and industrial decarbonization. It included a case study on the iron and steel sector, which builds on the recent WTO Trade Forum for Decarbonization Standards.

The seminar-workshop on trade remedies, on the other hand, is part of the cooperation between the Tariff Commission and the Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL), which focused on enhancing the competence of Philippine Investigating Authorities, specifically on the Safeguards Agreement and the Anti-Dumping Agreement.

The Ambassador’s participation served as an important opportunity to engage and create networks with the institutions involved in the topics covered by WTO issues and agreements under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Mission.

As a side event, Ambassador Teehankee also paid a courtesy visit to House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, whom he provided updates on the forthcoming World Economic Forum in January 2024, and the Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo in preparation for the 13th Ministerial Conference in February 2024.
