Philippine Government Sustains Efforts to Assist Filipino Casualties of Maui Wildfires

HONOLULU 13 December 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu continued the Philippine Government’s efforts to assist Filipinos impacted by the August 8, 2023 Maui wildfires through the conduct of its fourth assistance-to-nationals (ATN) mission held at the Lahaina Civic Center last December 8 and 9 and at the Binhi at Ani Filipino Community Center in Kahului last December 10.
The Consulate General partnered with the Disaster Recovery Center at the Lāhainā Civic Center, led by State Director Francis Kau, as well as the Binhi at Ani Filipino Community Center, represented by its President Ms. Melen Agcolicol and Legal Counsel Atty. Alfredo Evangelista, in the conduct of the outreach.
During his visit to Honolulu last November, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. authorized the disbursement of additional assistance for Filipino survivors and relatives of the fatalities. The team disbursed financial assistance to 270 Filipino beneficiaries. Assistance has been extended to over 600 beneficiaries with approximately US$180,000 in cash provided. The President also turned over a donation of US$ 100,00 to Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke on behalf of the Maui Strong Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation in a ceremony at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies last November 19.
