PH Ambassador to Cambodia Discusses Bilateral Cooperation with Interior Minister

PHNOM PENH 21 December 2023 – Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Maria Amelita C. Aquino called on the new Cambodian Minister of Interior Sar Sokha on 14 December 2023.

They discussed cooperation in various areas, particularly in law enforcement and in combating human trafficking.  

Ambassador Aquino conveyed appreciation for the Cambodian government’s support and assistance in addressing human trafficking issues involving Filipinos in Cambodia. She cited in particular the continuous support provided by the Cambodian National Police and the General Department of Immigration for Filipinos in distress.

The Ambassador also informed the Minister of actions and measures being taken by the Philippine government to address human trafficking and the embassy’s efforts in disseminating information on the immigration policies of Cambodia.

Minister Sar Sokha suggested increasing cooperation on capacity-building programs such as training for the public sector, particularly in law enforcement. He also mentioned strengthening cooperation on education and tourism, which would facilitate people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

The two officials also exchanged views on the general state of relations between the Philippines and Cambodia such as on areas of transnational crime, trade, and investment.  END
