27 June 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Athens, Greece commemorated the Day of the Seafarer with a special mass held on June 25 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Psychiko, Athens. The mass was celebrated by Fr. Alberto Paima, IVE.
Filipino seafarers participated in the readings during the Holy Mass. Chief Mate James Po rendered the first reading, and the responsorial Psalm was read by Mr. Homer Galesa, a seafarer working in a yacht.
Philippine Ambassador to Meynardo LB. Montealegre thanked those in attendance. Philippine Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jesus I. Yabes, who was in Athens on an official trip, imparted a short message to the seafarers and members of the Filipino community, recognizing the contributions of seafarers to the world. He also expressed appreciation for their sacrifices amid the many dangers that they face while at sea. END
