30 June 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu attended on June 26 the RIMPAC 2014 Opening Reception onboard the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor. The RIMPAC, or Rim of the Pacific, is the world’s largest international maritime exercise. Held every two years by the Commander of the US Pacific Fleet (PACFLT), RIMPAC is a multinational maritime exercise that takes place in and around the Hawaiian Islands.

This year’s RIMPAC exercise, the 24th in the series that began in 1971, is scheduled from June 26 to August 1. It sees the participation of 22 nations, 49 surface ships, 6 submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel.

Units from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, People’s Republic of China, Peru, Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Tonga, United Kingdom and the United States are joining the exercise.

RIMPAC is a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans. The theme of RIMPAC 2014 is “Capable, Adaptive Partners.”  END
