PH Consulate General in Istanbul Explores Collaboration with AFAD for Disaster Preparedness in the Marmara Region

ISTANBUL 29 January 2023 — Philippine Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil held a productive meeting with Mr. Ercan Akar, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority - Istanbul Provincial Disaster and Emergency Manager (AFAD), on 23 January 2024.
The discussions centered around fostering collaboration, gaining insights into AFAD's ongoing initiatives, and exploring joint projects in alignment with the Consulate's commitment to providing assistance and support to Filipino nationals in the Marmara region.
Provincial Disaster and Emergency Manager Akar highlighted AFAD's sustained efforts in two key areas - 1) structure-response and 2) coordination post-disaster. Consul General Mananquil expressed a keen interest in aligning the Consulate's activities with AFAD's priorities to maximize the impact of collaborative initiatives.
Both officials reiterated their commitment to working together, particularly in conducting disaster preparedness activities for the benefit of the Filipino community in the Marmara Region. END
