PH Ambassador in Jordan Takes Over Chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee, Hosts 12th ACA Meeting

AMMAN 01 February 2024 — Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo C. Santos recently took over the chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) from Malaysia, with a term of six months covering the period from 01 January 2024 to 30 June 2024.
On 10 January 2024, the symbolic turnover ceremony was held during the 11th ACA Meeting at the Sheraton Hotel Amman hosted by then outgoing ACA Chairperson Malaysian Ambassador to Jordan Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman. In his acceptance speech, Ambassador Santos congratulated Ambassador Abdul Rahman for his outstanding leadership and dedication that have significantly contributed to the advancement of cooperation and understanding among ASEAN member states and Jordan.
As the Philippines takes the helm of ASEAN representation in Jordan for 2024, Ambassador Santos said that during his tenure, ACA will focus on strengthening the bonds of people-to-people connection, and find common ground to engage among ASEAN member states, and various partners in Jordan by spearheading the cultivation of cultural collaboration and initiatives.
ASEAN has been a beacon of unity, promoting dialogue and cooperation among its diverse member states. Amman serves as a vital hub for ASEAN activities, and I am excited about the opportunities ahead. We can leverage our collective strength to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of ASEAN among our Jordanian partners in pursuit of ASEAN’s objectives in the region," Ambassador Santos added.
On 20 January 2024, to kick off his term as the ACA Chairperson, Ambassador Santos hosted the ACA New Year Gathering at the Mövenpick Hotel Amman. The gathering was an open mic lunch event where the ACA ambassadors and working group enjoyed an opportunity to have a light get-together with a friendly singing session, before the formal meeting the following week.
]On 28 January 2024, Ambassador Santos hosted the 12th ACA Meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel, where the ACA discussed the calendar of activities and the action plans they would set for the first half of 2024. The ACA and the working group scheduled several meetings and calls with various stakeholders and local partners in Jordan with the aim to strengthen the bonds of people-to-people connection and cultural initiatives among the ASEAN community and Jordan, as well as to forge possible partnerships for the greater good of ASEAN.
The ACA members are composed of the Ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and the ACA Working Group. END
