Filipino Professor Takes Part in University of Hawaii Lecture Series

HONOLULU 05 February 2024—Philippine Consul General Emil Fernandez welcomed Prof. Juvanni Caballero, PhD, on 02 February where he thanked the Consulate General for the given opportunity to speak at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The Mindanao State University faculty member reported on the conduct of his lecture series, “Exploring Complexities of the Bangsamoro Movement” held at the university last 30 January to 1 February.
Prof. Caballero was also joined by UH Indo-Pacific Languages and Literatures Department Chair Pia Arboleda, PhD, during the courtesy call. The Mindanao “expert” elaborated on the peace process and continuing nation-building efforts in Southern Philippines. He also looked into the importance of cultural awareness and understanding in developing instructional materials and instilling appreciation for the diversity of the peoples of the Philippines, including Bangsamoro.
The lecture series was organized by the Center for Philippine Studies (CPS) under the scope of the Philippine Studies Visiting Scholars Fund (PSVSF). Last November 23, 2022, the Philippine Government through its Consulate General in Honolulu granted P5 million (approximately US$ 100,000) to UH Manoa in the mission of strengthening the Philippine Studies Program.
