VIENNA 06 February 2024 – The Philippines assumed the role of Co-Chair of the Group of Friends (GoF) for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in the UN Office in Vienna / UN Office of Drugs and Crime (UNOV/UNODC) on 31 January 2024.
Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Organizations in Vienna Evangelina Lourdes A. Bernas and Australian Ambassador Ian Biggs of Australia took over from Swedish Ambassador Annika Markovic of Sweden and Mexican Ambassador Luis Campuzano. The incoming and outgoing co-chairs were joined in the podium by Ms. Hanna Sands, the UNODC Gender Strategy Team leader.
During her one-year term as GoF co-chair for 2024, Ambassador Bernas aims to align the gender advocacy of the Philippines with the goal of the Group to mainstream and promote gender equality and the empowerment of women in programmatic activities and organizational policies and practices of the UNOV/UNODC under the general theme of better access for women.
