PH Embassy, Agriculture Attaché Renew Pledge to Drive Agri-Food Trade Upward

NEW DELHI 06 February 2024 – Ramping up agricultural and food trade between the Philippines and India ranks high on the agenda pursued by the Philippine Embassy on 01 February 2024 in New Delhi and the Department of Agriculture.

Such was the gist of the first meeting, conducted virtually, between Philippine Ambassador-designate to India Josel F. Ignacio and Dubai-based Agriculture Attaché Ms. Nolet Fulgencio. Apart from India, Ms. Fulgencio covers the Middle East and Africa.

Ms. Fulgencio provided the envoy a briefing on the current complexion of Philippines-India agri-food commerce, and a run-through of issues and the Philippines’ priority objectives and initiatives vis-à-vis India. These include urging forward the Philippines’ ongoing engagement of India as a source to boost rice supply and stocks, and discussions with Indian counterparts on market access requests.

They also agreed to push for the timely convening of government meetings for agri-policy consultations as well as to hammer out agreements for expanding bilateral agriculture cooperation. Philippine Ambassador-designate Ignacio underscored the Embassy’s full support for the initiatives of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to explore and foster agriculture cooperation in fields of mutual interest such as technology, storage, and processing. Agriculture Attaché Fulgencio expressed appreciation for the Embassy’s manifestation of ready assistance in this vital sphere of Philippine-Indian cooperation. END
