PH Embassy in Pakistan Hosts Inaugural Session of 5th International Young Diplomats School Program

ISLAMABAD 16 February 2024 – Philippines Ambassador to Pakistan Maria Agnes M. Cervantes hosted the inaugural session of the 5th International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) program on 13 February 2024 at the Embassy of the Philippines in Islamabad. The Ambassador briefed the participants about the history of the diplomatic relationship between the Philippines and Pakistan. The Ambassador highlighted the mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries and how it evolved into a steadfast and enduring friendship overtime. As a member of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Philippines’ support to Pakistan in the region was highlighted by the Ambassador. The IYDS participants gained valuable insight into diplomatic protocols and etiquettes with a deeper understanding of the nuances involved in international relations.
Vice Consul Chryzl T. Sicat discussed the AmBisyon Natin 2040 vision which summarizes the long-term aspiration and vision of Filipinos for themselves and their nation in the next 25 years. She then provided an explanation of how the collective vision of the Filipino people guided diplomatic initiatives and thrusts of the Philippine Embassy. She elaborated on the role of the Philippines in various multilateral and regional fora and the challenges experienced by the Philippines especially in dispute settlement regarding the overlapping claims in the South China Sea. The participants and the Ambassador discussed the various factors contributing to a strong bilateral relationship between the two nations and emphasized the role of cultural diplomacy and promotion of cultural exchange programs. Global challenges such as climate change, regional security and health crisis were also discussed. The Ambassador underscored the potential for educational exchanges, research collaboration and scholarships between academic institutions of the two countries. END
