PARIS 19 February 2024 – Legazpi City is selected to join the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC).
During a virtual event on 14 February 2024, UNESCO officially announced the addition in the GNLC of 64 cities from 35 countries, including the Philippines’ Legazpi City.
These cities have demonstrated exceptional commitment to fostering lifelong learning opportunities for all within their local communities. GNLC brings together cities committed to promoting lifelong learning through policy dialogue, peer learning, and collaboration among its members to discuss innovative ways to develop, improve, and monitor learning cities strategies.
UNESCO learning cities emphasize collaboration among education, training, and cultural institutions, involving various stakeholders like government officials, civil society groups, and businesses.
With the inclusion of Legazpi City, the Philippines now has two cities listed in the Global Network of Learning Cities. Balanga City previously became a member of GNLC in 2015.
